Happy 5th Anniversay!

It is hard to believe we started this little adventure 5 years ago. There has been a lot of hard work from both Family and Friends over these last 5 years. Without my family the doors to Scrappy Papers would not have opened. They have been such a support from the beginning. We started with a thought and with their help it became reality.
This was the way the old shop looked before the family made it a comfy cozy place to gather.

Here we have Frank during the construction.

Belinda getting those windows ready.

Frank and James are unloading those heavy display shelves.

Well what would the store be without the help of those kids. Joshua is helping Mike mount the shelves for the speakers while Josh and Mandy keep an eye on everything.

And of course Miss Emily helping unpack the Slat wall.

Becky and Geneva working hard to get those last few things checked in before the Grand Opening.

Yep! That is a blonder me hanging that product on the shelf. That was back when I could see enough to park those glasses on my nose. Over these last few years they have inched higher up on the nose 'til they are about where they should be.
This is the beginning for Scrappy Papers.

Of course, you have to have a ribbon cutting.

The first but not the last cake to enter the shop!!!!

These are our very first customers, Carole and Glenda.

Then we moved into the new digs with lots of help from Family. Thank you Frank, Belinda, James, Mike, Geneva, Josh, Mandy, Steve, Becky, Joshua, Emily, Carter, and Tate.

And what would Scrappy Papers be without the love and support of our wonderful customers.

.

You make it such a pleasure to come to the shop everyday. I never know what little surprise you have in store for me to figure out. You put up with my _____ (what is that sound I make to stop you from doing something?). Oh well I can't spell it but you know the sound. You make me laugh, cry, and scratch my head. Thank you for making each day a great day here at Scrappy Papers.

Thank you all for your continued support of Scrappy Papers.

See you at the shop

Milestone

How many milestones do we have in our lifetime? Sometime we may not even realize our accomplishment. Completing the rigorous training that the Florida Highway Patrol Recruits go through is a great accomplishment. Our previous post Congratulated Steve on completing that training. This weeks layout is just a mini tribute to his time during this training and his graduation. You can see how thrilled Becky and the kids are of Steve as they pose in front of the patrol car. Congratulations to all of them for their commitment during the six month of training they all went through. It takes working together to do great things.

Well, this week is Cricut Club Saturday. This is also Crop night Friday. Please let me know if you will be coming to crop or to WOW on Friday. If no one has signed up I will head home early.

Gotta get the class set up for tomorrow and those little bags packed for class.

See you at the shop.

Old Fashioned Fun

Too often we see our children plopped in front of some electronic. It is so wonderful to see them enjoying some old fashioned fun. That is what our layout is all about this week. Kids being kids.

This weekend is Card Blitz weekend. Be sure to sign up for an afternoon of card making fun.

Better get going so I can get those card blitz cards ready.

See you at the shop.

Good grief! This is May not July. We should not be having 90 degree temperatures this early. What happened to our Spring?

Going home Wednesday night I had a rare treat. As I turned the corner to my street, I spot a beautiful deer in our front yard. Love it!!!! I guess they stay hidden in the heat of the day and search for that food at night when it is cool.

I heard from Jackie Clark via her daughter. Jackie is at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. I am sure she would love to hear from you.

Tomorrow is Cuttlebug. Come join the fun!!!!

See you at the shop.

Mom

Well my muse was a little slow this week. So here is our layout for this week. It is a wonderful picture of my Mom when she was very young. My goodness what a head of hair she had. Of course I only remember her with short hair. Do we every think of our parents as being that young and carefree?

Have a great evening.

See you at the shop.
Hope you all had a great Mother's Day. I crashed all day. But I did do my laundry. And I haven't been doing the lawn. James my nephew has been getting it done. Boy, it sure looked pretty when I turned the corner coming home last night. And this morning leaving the sun was peeking through the trees and the dewy grass was so green and fresh looking. Thank you James for doing such a great job.

Most of you know I have lost my voice these last couple of days. I think the ladies kinda liked me being quiet on Saturday. although it was hard to wish my Mother-in-law a happy Mother's day. She doesn't hear that well and with my voice fading in and out. Oh well, I could hear her and I will call her when the voice returns.

I'm waiting on the card group to arrive. Then I will get going on the layout. Take a break to get my haircut. Then back to the layout.....

Have a great day.

See you at the shop.

Happy Mother's Day!

I would like to wish you all a Happy Mother's Day!

This is a picture of my Mom with three of her children in the pool. The baby, and we all know who the baby of the family is because she will be quick to let you know, is too little to be in the pool.

Now this is my Granny. My Dad's Mom. This was taken the same year as the pool picture. See how tiny Geneva is. No wonder she could not be in the pool.

This is Granny with my Dad. Wasn't he a cutie.

This is my other grandmother. We called her Big Mert. Can you guess which one is my Mom?

This is Mom Musto who is about 92. She is my husbands' Mom. She is still very active.

Thank you all for being in my life.

And thank all you Mom's, Aunts, Sisters, Sisters-in-law, Nieces, and Friends for being great Moms. I was unable to be a Mom but I love being a Big Sister, Aunt, and Great Aunt. it is like being a Grandmother. You get to enjoy spoiling them and then you get to send them back to their parents.

A special Happy Mother's Day to the 'ladies' (as Carter calls you) of the shop. Hope you all have a great day.

See you at th shop.

What a nice little rain we just had. Hopefully, this will help some of those fires that are around. We just need a few more.

I'm all psyched up for the weekend. Are you gonna come play here at the shop. You guys always have some of the coolest projects you are working on. I love seeing all that talent expressed.

Carter is always such a treat. Yesterday he found the bone folders. You know those creamy arrow shaped things that you use to crease your paper with. I thought he was gonna start pretending they were swords. Not.... He started counting out load 2. 3. 4. What! I know he can count. Where is that number 1? But he meant to leave that 1 off. He was counting down his beat. Then he started using those bone folders and began playing his 'drums'. Where does a 4 year old come up with this stuff. Then later in the day he was playing his games and watching videos on the laptop. I went and sat down beside him. He then turned the laptop so I could watch with him. He did this without me saying a word. Now how thoughtful is that!!!!

Better get busy doing something.

See you at the shop.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Special sale today. All punches and stamps are 30% off. Come grab a deal.

Boy, this weather sure has cut the life of those beautiful wildflowers along the roadside. I guess this will be our last cool weather before that stinking Summer weather starts. Prissy and I really enjoyed our ride home last night. We rolled the windows down and let the wind blow our hair all over the place. I think Prissy's hair was blowing more than mine. Her hair is longer.

Praying for Tomi and her family.

Better get ready for that wild Thursday morning group. I think there maybe 10 here this morning. Oh my!!!!

See you at the shop.

See you at the shop.

Time Passes

I was out walking Prissy this morning here at the house and low and behold I actually heard some quail calling out. What a beautiful sound. I could not locate him but I sure enjoyed hearing him.

I was driving into town the other day and my darn blinker started making that awful sound that warns you the bulb has blown. UGH!!! But Frank to the rescue. He had it changed out and sounding it's normal self. Thanks 'little' brother.

In a blink of an eye the children are grown. Don't miss any opportunity to enjoy anything the do. Our layout for this week shows how my nephew has grown in a blink of an eye.

Can you remember holding your guys? It won't be long and they will be holding you.

Don't forget to let me know if you are planning to join us for any activity this weekend. You never know what little project I might come up with. All the info is posted on the blog under National Scrapbook Weekend.

Don't go into shock that I have the layout for the week posted already.

See you at the shop.

Just a quickie. Glenda is missing her scoring tool that goes to her scoreboard. Please check your stash and see if it is hiding there. If you come across this little bone folder please drop it by the shop. Thanks.

See you at the shop.
Saturday we tried the Firehouse Subs for the first time. That place was a mad house. I guess lunchtime right after all the sports activities is not a good time. The sub was very good. I am not fond of warm subs but that one was ok. Thank goodness I only wanted unsweetened tea. That drink machine with all the choices would have driven me crazzzzzzyyy!

Here is another pie/ tart recipe from our National Pie celebration.

Mascarpone-Maple Tarts with Maple-Balsamic Strawberries

1 (8-ounce) package frozen tart shells, thawed
3/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons maple syrup, divided
1/4 cup white balsamic vinegar
1 (8.8 ounce) container mascarpone cheese, softened
1 3 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup sliced strawberries
Garnish: fresh mint (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Place tart shell on a baking sheet, and bake according to package directions.

Let cool completely.

In medium saucepan, combine 3/4 cup maple sugar and balsamic vinegar.

Bring to a boil: reduce heat, and simmer 11-12 minutes or until mixture is reduced to about 1/3 cup.

Allow mixture to cool to room temperature.

In medium bowl, beat mascarpone cheese, cream cheese, confectioner's sugar, vanilla, and remaining 2 Tablespoons maple syrup with a mixture at medium speed until blended.

Spoon 1 teaspoon Maple-balsamic mixture in each prepared tart shell.

Fill tart shell with mascarpone mixture.

Top with strawberries.

Drizzle remaining maple-balsamic mixture over strawberries.

Garnish with mint.

Note:

To make ahead, prepare tarts up through topping with strawberries.

Cover and chill up to 8 hours.

Remove fro refrigerator, and drizzle with maple-balsamic mixture minutes before serving.

If mixture becomes too thick, reheat in microwave for about 10 seconds.

Josh mowed the yard here at the shop. I don't know how he has the time to get everything done. He helps coach his sons baseball team. Plus he is helping with Carter's T-ball team. He works full time and is a wonderful husband and father. If anyone is in need of help he is there. Thank you Josh.

Have a great day.

See you at the shop.

Swedish Apple Pie

Coming into town the other day I saw the turkey's on the roadside. I slowed down to enjoy the three of the grazing. A car came up behind me so I could not get my camera out fast enough for a shot. Love all this wildlife we have.

I have been meaning to post the recipes of some of the pies that we had on during National Pie month.

The first recipe is:

Swedish Apple Pie

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
2 medium tart apples, chopped
3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted
Confectioners' sugar, optional

In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flours, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.

In a small bowl, whisk egg, and vanilla.

Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.

Fold in apples and walnuts.

Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate coated with cooking spray.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar if desired.

Serve warm.

I will post some other recipes later.

See you at the shop.

What a beautiful morning. Prissy actually slept until 7:30 this morning. So we cranked up and started our day. We first fed Pokey. He did not want to cooperate at first. As I was pouring his feed into his bucket the big stinker nudged my hand and knocked the bucket. So here goes some of the feed onto the ground. I made him back off and let me finish pouring his feed. After getting ready and starting out the drive Pokey was grazing in the pasture. He loves to eat!!!!

I came to the shop to do some a few things and get ready for next weekends National Scrapbook Day. Friday we have a special crop starting at 5:00pm. We will play until midnight as well as have a supper. There may be a project sometime during the evening. Then Saturday we start with bagels at 9:00 am or you can start playing while you munch on a bagel. There will be time during your play time to have some lunch and do a few projects. Goodness, gracious what will we be doing throughout the day. Can't wait to see what each of you bring to play with during the day.

The windows are open, the fan is running, Prissy is snoozing on her blanky, and I have been searching the web for our next project. Never know what I will come up with next.

Better get back to work. Have a wonderful day.

See you at the shop!!!
